Shreya Ghoshal Munbe Vaa Shreya Ghoshal (born 12 March 1984) is an Indian playback singer. She sings in Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi, Gujarati, Assamese, Nepali, Oriya, Bhojpuri, Punjabi, Urdu, and Tulu languages. Ghoshal’s career began when she won the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa contest as an adult. Her Bollywood playback singing career began with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas, for which she received a National Film Award and a Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer. She has received many other awards. These include four Filmfare Awards among six nominations and seven Filmfare Awards South. In 2010, Ghoshal was honored by the U.S. state of Ohio, where governor Ted Strickland declared 26 June 2010 as “Shreya Ghoshal Day”. She was also featured five times in the Forbes list of the top 100 celebrities of India and she is the only Indian singer to make it to this elite club. In 2017, Ghoshal became the first Indian singer to have a wax statue in Madame Tussauds Museum.

In 2002, she made her Bollywood playback singing debut for the Hindi film Devdas for which she received a National Film Award, a Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer, and the Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent. The following year, she sang five songs in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next film, Kal Ho Naa Ho. In 2004, she recorded songs for films such as Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana and Ek Phaalis Ki Last Local. Ghoshal’s first song in a Tamil film was Thiruppugazh (2004) composed by Ilaiyaraaja for the Siddharth-starrer Aayutha Ezhuthu.

In 2007, Ghoshal lent her voice to S. Shankar’s Tamil film, Anniyan, in which she sang a duet with Harris Jayaraj and “Yaarumilla” (Kannum Kannum Nokia). The song “Azhage Azhage” from Raavanan composed by A. R. Rahman was her first solo Tamil song and her performance won critical acclaim. She has also appeared as a judge on several television reality shows. In 2017, she made her debut as a music director for the Bengali film Krishnakoli.

Ghoshal’s career began when she won the television singing reality show, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa in 1995. She was then only twelve years old.
